How to Craft With Crochet Doilies
- 1). Buy vintage doilies from thrift stores or gather old ones from around your house. Do not rule out any doily. Doilies that are interesting colors--such as orange or lime green--will make your art projects even more whimsical.
- 2). Fold an 8.5-by-11-inch piece of card stock in half lengthwise. This is the base of your card.
- 3). Plug your glue gun into a power outlet and allow it to heat according to the directions on the package. Do not forget to insert a glue stick in the back of the gun.
- 4). Turn the doily on its backside and squirt small drops of glue around the edges of the doily and in the center. Quickly turn the doily over and press it onto the face of the card. Experiment with different sizes of doilies, but make sure they fit onto the face of the card. You may have to make your card face larger to accomomdate some doilies.
- 5). Write a message on the front and inside of the card with a paint marker.
- 1). Buy a vintage cookie tin in a solid color from a thrift store. Wash it with hot water and dish-washing soap. Allow to dry.
- 2). Select a vintage doily that will fit the top of the tin cover. It is OK if the doily takes up the full surface of the tin or is a little smaller. Use the extra space around the doily for further embellishment with a paint marker or faux jewels.
- 3). Attach the doily to the tin top by turning the doily to the backside and squirting glue around the perimeter and in the center. Do this as quickly as possible, without burning yourself. Glue from glue guns is hot, but it dries quickly.
- 4). Place the doily, glue side down, onto the tin top. Allow to dry. Fill the tin with a cookies wrapped in paper cups and present as a gift.
