Sealing Honed Tiles
- 1). Study the type of honed tile you are sealing. Determine if it is travertine, marble or limestone. If you are unsure, take a sample with you to the local hardware or homebuilder store.
- 2). Clean the honed tile with a mild soap and water. Remove any debris with a broom or vacuum. Make sure the surface is free from any dirt. Wipe the tile dry or use a hairdryer to completely dry the surface.
- 3). Purchase a sealant for the type and color of tile you have. Generally, sealant comes in light and dark shades. If required, mix the sealant as directed by the manufacture.
- 4). Apply the sealant evenly with a clean, soft cloth to the honed tile. Make sure the sealant does not puddle on the tile. Wipe the sealant until it appears even. Allow it to dry at least 24 hours and apply a second coat.
- 5). Buff the honed tile by rubbing it in a circular motion with a clean, cotton or microfiber cloth. Prevent foot traffic for at least 72 hours.
