How to Crochet a Scrunchie With Beads
- 1). Choose the color yarn and beads you want to use. Use one color of yarn and one or two colors of beads. You will need 36 mini pony beads in a single color or 18 each of two coordinating colors. Try black yarn and orange and yellow beads for a Halloween scrunchie or white yarn and red and green beads for Christmas.
- 2). Thread the end of the yarn into the yarn needle; the other end of the yarn will still be in the skein or ball. Push the needle through the hole in each pony bead, alternating colors if you are using two colors. Alternatively, thread on two pony beads in one color, then two of the other.
- 3). Push the beads several feet down the yarn, toward the ball or skein. As you crochet, you'll slide one bead at a time up to your crochet hook and then work a stitch around the bead. The rest of the time, the beads will remain farther down the yarn, away from your work.
- 4). Join the yarn to the elastic band with a slip stitch. As you begin to crochet around the band, place your stitches over the tail of the yarn so you won't have to cut it and weave it in later.
- 5). Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet) and then work 35 double crochet around the band. Join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the initial chain 3. You'll have a total of 36 double crochet now.
- 6). Chain 3. *Work 1 double crochet in the next stitch. Bring up 1 bead from the yarn to just next to the crochet hook. Work 1 more double crochet in the same stitch as the first double crochet.* Repeat from * to * around until you reach the initial chain 3. Bring up the final bead to just next to the crochet hook and then join with a slip stitch to the second chain of the initial chain 3. Fasten off your yarn and weave the end in so it doesn't show.
