    • 1). Cut your extension cord to the length necessary to reach from the location where you'll mount the ceiling fan to the wall outlet. Take into account the actual route you'll run the cord along to ensure that it is long enough. Cut the cord with a set of wire cutters.

    • 2). Separate the two leads of the extension cord and pull them apart with your fingers to separate about two inches of lead. Remove 1/2 inch of insulation from the end of each lead with a set of wire strippers.

    • 3). Place the bare ends of one of the extension cord leads with the bare end of the black wire connected to the fan. Place a wire nut over the wires and twist to secure it tightly. Wrap a small piece of electrical tape around the wires and nut as an extra insurance.

    • 4). Place the bare ends of one of the extension cord leads with the bare end of the white wire connected to the fan. Place a wire nut over the wires and twist to secure it tightly. Wrap a small piece of electrical tape around the wires and nut as an extra insurance.

    • 5). Mount the fan as specified in its directions, with the exception of the wiring. When you're ready to use the fan, simply plug it into the wall outlet.
