    • 1). Create an outdoor work area by laying out a large plastic tarp or heavyweight paper to protect the ground from concrete. Wear gloves, safety glasses and a dust mask.

    • 2). Choose a paver shape such as square, rectangle, circular, oval or any combination of these shapes. Create pavers in molds specifically designed for this purpose, or use nicely shaped cake, pans, wood boxes or shaped plastic containers.

    • 3). Coat the inside of a paver mold with a thick layer of petroleum jelly to prevent the concrete from permanently adhering to the mold.

    • 4). Mix ready-mix concrete with water in a large bucket, wheelbarrow or trough according to the directions on the bag to create a thick, paste-like consistency.

    • 5). Scoop the wet concrete out of the mixing container with a small bucket, tin can or ladle and fill the mold halfway.

    • 6). Press the concrete firmly into the mold with a small trowel, or wear rubber gloves and use your hand to pat the concrete down. This will release air bubbles and air pockets.

    • 7). Fill the mold the rest of the way with the wet concrete, press down, smooth the surface with a trowel and set aside to dry for 2 to 3 days.

    • 8). Turn the mold over to release the paver.
