How to Crochet a Scarf & Sweater Pockets

Make a foundation chain 8 inches long plus two stitches. Wrap the yarn once around the hook, insert the hook in the third chain down and draw up a loop. Catch the yarn again and pull through all three loops to complete a half-double crochet. Skip the next chain and make two half-double crochets in the fifth chain. Continue across, making two half-double crochets in every other chain. Chain two and turn. - 2). Make one half-double crochet in the same stitch as the turning chain. On this row, skip the stitches in the middle of each pair of half-double crochets and work two half-double crochets in the spaces between the Vs. Chain two and turn.
- 3). Repeat these two rows, each time working the V stitches between the stitches of the preceding row, until your scarf measures 84 inches. Fasten off.
- 1). Plan where to place which color in each of two granny squares worked in rounds from the inside. Use the main scarf color as either the center or the outside edge, or between two other colors.
- 2). Chain six and join with a slip stitch to form a ring. Chain three, and work two double crochets (wrap the yarn, draw up a loop, catch the yarn and draw through two loops twice) into the ring. Chain two. Work three double crochets, chain two and repeat twice more, joining the last chain-two to the first chain of the round. Break off that color.
- 3). Attach your selected next color at any of the chain-two corners. Chain three. Make two more double crochets, chain two, and make three more double crochets in the same chain-two corner. Chain one. Work another set of three double crochets, chain two, and three double crochets in each of the other three corners, with one chain stitch spanning the clusters of the first round. Join the last chain-one to the chain that started the round and break off.
- 4). Attach the third color in the chain-one space where you finished the second round. Chain three. Make two double crochets in the same space and chain one. In the corner, make three double crochets, chain two, and make three more double crochets. Continue around, making one cluster of three double crochets in each chain-one space, followed by a chain one, and in each chain-two corner space, two clusters separated by a chain-two space and followed by a chain one. Join the last chain-one to the beginning chain and break off.
- 5). Check your pocket's fit to the end of the scarf or the spot on the sweater where you plan to place it. Add a fourth round and color, using the formula from Step 4, or stop there. Make a second pocket to match, or vary the layout of the colors.
- 6). Position the pockets on the scarf or sweater and stitch around the sides and bottom.
