Military personnel serve their country proudly every day, without complaining or asking for anything in return. Show your pride in your loved one's military service by throwing a Navy themed party when someone you know joins the Navy, returns on leave or retires. It's not always easy to find decorations for this type of cake. Using decorations that relate to the Navy is one option, but others might prefer focusing on the idea that military people are proud of their country by using the classic red, white and blue colors. - An anchor is an icon associated with the Navy and you can incorporate that into the cake in several different ways. One is to use a small anchor on top of a round cake or placing an anchor on the top of a 3-tier cake. Piping an anchor design on the cake with frosting is another option. Another option is to cut out the anchor on a sheet of paper and place that over a frosted cake. Then shake colored sugar over the top and remove the paper to reveal an anchor of sugar.
- If you have a bakery in your area, ask about buying sheets of printed paper. The bakery prints off images, using a special paper, which the baker then transfers to the cake. Many bakeries have the Navy emblem in their resources, which looks good on a plain white cake and doesn't require any other decorations. Another idea is bringing along your own image, such as the guest of honor in his military dress and having the bakery print that for use on your cake.
- Red, white and blue has special meaning for military personnel. Pipe the stripes on in alternating rows of white and red frosting. Then pipe one square on the upper left-hand side in blue and add white stars with a star tip. Another idea is to frost cupcakes in red, white and blue and arrange those in a flag shape.
- Party stores often sell decorations meant for military style cakes and many have Navy decorations in-stock. Some sell the Navy emblem in a smaller design for use on cakes, while others offer smaller Navy style flags and badges. Also, look for wedding cake toppers if you're working on a birthday and wedding cake. The toppers show a bride and groom, but put a ribbon or bow on the bottom, with the Navy logo in the middle.
