Your vision has been slowly getting worse. You can’t read the paper any more, and the television isn’t as clear as it used to be. Driving is difficult- there are foggy spots and sometimes your vision is blurry. It’s time to go to a full service eye care center and see what’s going on with your eyes.

Do you have Cataracts?
Some of your friends have had cataracts and had cataract surgery to fix the problem. You aren’t sure if that’s what’s wrong, but you want to find out if you have cataracts. Visit a professional eye doctor to find out what you need.

Eye Exam for Cataracts
The eye doctor will examine your eyes. He should be a qualified ophthalmologist or optometrist who can figure out if you need glasses, contacts, or if the problem is worse and you have cataracts.

Cataracts- how to treat them
You can’t cure cataracts with eye drops or medicine. There isn’t any way to improve your vision except to remove the cataracts and replace your lens with an artificial lens. It’s not as difficult as it sounds- the surgery is outpatient and you are back to your regular self the next day. Some people say their vision is immediately improved and are amazed at the results on the car ride home.

You will need to rest after your surgery, but that’s about it. Regular eye drops will be a part of your schedule for several weeks, but you can work, read and do all your regular activities.

Cataracts- what are they?
Cataracts are a clouding of the natural lens inside the eye. Cataracts are a gradual thickening of the lens that caused the lens to become very clouded. Then the light going into your eye cannot properly reach the back of the eye, the retina, for transmission to the brain. Your vision is blurry. When left untreated, cataracts may eventually cause blindness.

Cataract Causes
There are many factors and possibilities to the sources of cataracts. Cataracts could be caused by excessive exposure to ultraviolet light, trauma to the eye, illness, or particular medicines. There are certain diseases, such as diabetes and hypothyroidism that have been shown to cause cataracts.

Eye Exam
