Unexpected Crisis - Words That Change Your Life

103 20
I'll never forget that day.
I had just left a friend's house where we had shared lunch together.
My cell phone rang, it was my husband.
His voice sounded different, he told me his boss wanted to have a meeting with him.
Those words shouldn't have been so strange; he had many meetings with his boss.
But I knew he knew...
something was different.
Over the previous three years his company had gone through a buy-out and two substantial series of job cuts.
There were rumors more were coming.
The next word I got from him would change our lives significantly, "My job has been eliminated".
My husband had worked for this company for twenty-six years.
He was going to retire early with a pension and health insurance.
We were five years from paying off our mortgage.
Life just changed.
Words that change your life; "you have cancer", "there's been an accident", "I want a divorce", "your job has been eliminated".
Life changes so quickly, in a breath, a heartbeat, a split second.
Hopes are dashed, plans are forgotten, dreams?...
(sigh).
So where do you go when your world is shifting like the sand under the waves? You move to solid ground.
What can we count on to never change? To pay up what was promised? God does not change: "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
" James 1:17 "For I the Lord do not change...
" Malachi 3:6a Jesus does not change: "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.
" Hebrews 13:8 God's Word does not change: "Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.
" Psalm 119:89 God's presence does not change: "I will never leave you or forsake you" Hebrews 13:5b God's work in my life does not change: "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform until the day of Jesus Christ.
" So that's where I went; to God and His Word.
I wish I could say that it became easy, painless, a spin in the park.
It wasn't...
it was hard, painful, still is sometimes, but my feet are on solid ground.
As the song says...
"when the earth all around me is sinking sand, On Christ the solid rock I stand.
