Can Grass Seed Be Planted With Weeds?
- Grass will not grow with any competition, so an important aspect of planting grass seed is to prepare the site adequately. Gardeners should start by tilling the top 2 inches of soil in the plot to loosen it.
- Because grass can't grow with competition, it's important to remove any litter or other vegetation from the area that will be planted with grass. After tilling the plot, gardeners should get rid of weeds, rocks, litter, wood or roots in the soil. This gives grass seeds the best chance at germination.
- Once the garden soil is clear of all litter, gardeners should even out the soil to eliminate any depressions, then mix in top soil or grass starter soil for their grass seeds.
