How to Install a New String in a Gas Trimmer
- 1). Determine the proper string diameter to use for your gas trimmer. This information can be obtained from the owner's manual.
- 2). Remove the spool and any excess trimmer string that remains. There are two types of spools: Pop-off and screw-off. For the pop-off models, insert a flathead screwdriver into the designated hole and pull cap upwards to release. For the screw-off models, depress cap and unscrew in a clockwise direction.
- 3). Clean the spool and the trimmer head. This should be done each time you change the string to improve your gas trimmer's operation.
- 4). Feed string through starter hole in the spool. Wind string (arrows on spool will indicate which direction) until spool is two-thirds full. Cut string with scissors.
- 5). Slide spool back into position on trimmer head. Feed the loose end of the string through the hole in the spool. Attach the spool's cap. Trim string so the radius is shorter than the trimmer's guard.
