Rename File with Correct File Extension

• 1). Right-click Windows "Start" and select the "Explore" link to launch the Windows Explorer file manager.
  
  
• 2). Navigate to the MPG file with the file extension of ".004." Right-click on the file.
  
  
• 3). Click "Rename" from the context menu. The file name will highlight and become editable.
  
  
• 4). Type ".mpg" to replace the ".004" file extension in the file name. If the file extension is not visible, enclose the file name in quotes to force the file extension renaming process (i.e. "filename.mpg").
  
  
• 5). Click off the file to save the renamed file name, and then click "OK" on the Rename Confirmation dialog box.
  
  
• 6). Right-click on the MPG file and select "Play" from the menu. The Windows Media Player application will launch and the MPG file will open and play.
  
  

Force File Open in Windows Media Player

• 1). Right-click on the MPG file with the file extension of ".004."
  
  
• 2). Click "Open With.." (or "Open" if the Open With option is not visible) from the context menu. A list of available programs will open in a selection window.
  
  
• 3). Click the "Windows Media Player" entry and then click "OK". The file will open and play in Windows Media Player if the player recognizes the file as an MPG file. (If the file is not recognized, rename the file extension as specified in Section 1.)
