How to Make a Purse Using Felt
- 1). Lay the heavyweight felt on your work table. For a smaller purse, use a ruler and tailor’s chalk to draw a rectangle that measures 10 inches wide by 16 inches long. For a larger purse, draw a rectangle 18 inches wide by 32 inches long. Cut out the felt shape.
- 2). Lay another piece of the felt down and cut two strips that measure 3 inches wide by 10 inches long.
- 3). Lay the large felt rectangle on your work table. If the felt is patterned, fold the felt with the good side inward.
- 4). Sew a small 2 mm by 3 mm zigzag stitch along both sides of the purse.
- 5). Fold 1/4 inch down around the top open end of the purse and use the same stitch to secure the fold.
- 6). Measure the width of the top. Find the center and make a mark 3 inches in either direction from the center with a fabric pen. Pin one end of one of the strips over the top of either mark. Flip the purse over and repeat to attach a strap to the other side of the purse.
- 7). Turn the purse right side out and decorate. Pin silk flowers around the top opening of the purse and sew the flowers in place from the interior.
