How to Install Nerf Bars on a Honda TRX450ER
- 1). Lock the parking on your ATV. Turn the gas petcock to "Off" and stand the ATV upright so that it sits on the rear grab bar. Make sure that it is secure and will not fall over during the installation.
- 2). Locate and remove the 2 OEM bolts that attach the front portion of the skid plate to the ATV frame. Working from the bottom, install the (2) M6 flange bolts and M6 washers that came with the nerf bar kit into the ATVs threaded frame holes. Torque bolts to 6ft lbs.
- 3). Position the left nerf bar into the front of the ATV frame and insert the right nerf bar tube into the nerf bar. Install left front nerf bar mounting bracket over the threaded studs using (2) of the M6 nuts, finger tight.
- 4). Install the rear nerf bars to the foot pegs using (4) M8 bolts, (4) washers and (4) nuts; finger tighten.
- 5). Install (1) M6 nut onto (1) M6 bolt and install into the threaded hole in the left front nerf bar bracket tube until it bottoms out against the inside right nerf bar tube. Using a wrench to stabilize (1) M6 bolt, turn (1) M6 nut counter clockwise until it stops against the threaded nerf bar bracket.
- 6). Install the left and right side web sets.
- 7). Tighten the left rear and then the right rear nerf bar brackets that are attached to the foot pegs. Next, tighten the left front nerf bar bracket to the threaded studs. Then tighten the left and right foot pegs to frame.
- 8). Torque all M6 bolts to 6ft lbs, all M8 bolts to 12ft lbs and OEM foot peg M10 bolts to 35ft lbs.
- 9). Install webbing to nerf bar; be sure to secure web set frame straps around your ATVs lower frame using the web clips that came with the kit.
