How to Paint a Corvette Underhood Liner
- 1). Open the hood of the Corvette and remove the underhood liner. Pop the plastic clips out of the hood and liner with a forked removal tool. Slide the fork so that the round clip fits between the two sides of the fork. Gently pry the clip up with the fork until it pops out. Do this for all of the clips that hold the liner in place. Lay the liner on a flat work surface.
- 2). Seal the liner with black spray paint. Hold the can 2 or 3 inches from the surface and coat the liner. The liner will soak up the paint very quickly. Let the liner dry for 20 minutes. Repeat this four times and then let the liner dry completely. After the final coat, while the paint is still wet, smooth any stray fibers from the liner with a plastic spoon.
- 3). Paint the picture or pattern you want with the paintbrushes and model paint. The black paint on the liner makes a base coat that won't soak up the model paint, so the design you paint will dry as it looks when painted. Let each layer or coat of paint dry completely before moving to the next.
- 4). Let the paint dry for a full 48 hours before installing it back under the hood of the Corvette. Install the liner by holding it against the underside of the hood and inserting the plastic clips into the designated holes in the liner.
