How to Germinate a Store Bought Coconut
- 1). Fill up the bucket with water and place the coconut into the bucket. Leave the coconut to soak by placing the bucket in a warm, dark place for 48 hours.
- 2). Mix 60 percent soil with 40 percent sand. Fill the plant pot about three-quarters of the way. Dig a small hole in the center of the pot.
- 3). Place the coconut onto the ground to see the way it sits naturally. Plant the coconut, in the same position, in the center of the plant pot. Fill in any gaps around the coconut with the soil and sand mixture, but leave a third of the coconut above the soil.
- 4). Place the plant pot in a warm area receiving partial shade. Keep the soil moist but not too wet, as it could damage the coconut. Leave the coconut to germinate, which can take between six months and a year.
