- The 1988 Pontiac Trans Am's base engine was a 305 cubic inch V-8 engine with 5.0 liters of displacement. This motor had a 3.74-inch bore, 3.48-inch stroke and a compression ratio of 9.3 to 1. This overhead valve motor ran on 91 octane grade gasoline or better.
