Doily T-shirt Crafts
- Customize any plain T-shirt or tank top with doily patterns. Clothing items made of natural fibers such as cotton or linen are ideal. Place a piece of cardboard inside the garment before starting work to prevent bleed through. Use fabric paint or mix acrylic craft paint with a fabric paint medium, following the instructions on the bottle. When your design is complete, allow it to dry naturally for 24 hours, then iron to set the paint.
- Cover your work surface with newspaper and lay a paper doily down right side up. Brush fabric paint lightly over the doily coating the surface evenly, but taking care not to overload it. Place the doily in position paint side down on the front of the shirt. Cover the doily with a piece of scrap fabric. Roll a rolling pin or wine bottle firmly over the area. Remove the scrap fabric and lift up the doily to reveal the print.
- Lay a paper doily in position on the front of the shirt. Sponge the fabric paint lightly over the doily, covering the whole thing and working slightly over the outer edges using a foam brush or sponge. Gently lift up the doily to reveal the relief pattern. Overlap doily stencils or place small doily stencils alongside each other.
- Cut paper doilies into sections to create decorative designs. Cut two circular doilies into semi-circles. Arrange the four semi-circles to make a square, with the rounded sides in the center. Alternatively, cut a heart-shaped doily in half vertically and print the two halves separately leaving a space between them. Cut a circular doily into segments and arrange them to make a fan shape.
