How to Fiberglass a Mold Layup for Car Subwoofer Speakers
- 1). First, wax all of the mold parts. Wax each mold once. No need for a second wax.
- 2). The MDF ring will be used to mount the sub woofer. Put it in place on the molding.
- 3). Clamp it down. Be sure to make it flush. The ring will also cut down on excess renforcements.
- 4). Brush resin over both moldings, sealing the ring down too. No need to apply any gel coat. Layup each mold individually first.
- 5). Layup as much as you can while the molding is still open. Then layup the seal.
- 6). After the resin has cured, remove all clamps.
- 7). Use talc in resin to fill up the gap around the ring. Talc in resin will thicken to a syrup.
- 8). Start the reinforcements. Rip pieces of matte and place around the ring. Place fiberglass all over the molding. Put some CSM over the seam.
- 9). Clamp the moldings together. Layup the seam through the speaker hole.
