Status Quo and the Reasons Why Blue For You is a Classic
Status Quo released their 9th Studio album in 1976 and although this was to be another in a string of number one albums in this era, it was the last album that would feature the raw live studio sound for nearly 25 years.
Another little known rumour about this album is that it was the first number one album which had a sponsor, in this case Levi.
The album spawned 2 hit singles which were Rain and Mystery Song.
However the remastered version of the album also included Wild Side of Life which was released around this time.
The album starts off with the aggressive Is There A Better Way with vocals by Alan Lancaster and moves onto the highly energetic shuffle, Mad About The Boy with vocals from Francis Rossi.
These two songs show the contrast between the different writing styles of the band members and there would be something in both of these songs that would appeal to all Quo fans.
The vocal styles are completely contrasting with Francis Rossi's voice being much more radio friendly and easier on the ear than Lancaster's more gravelly tones.
This was the beauty of the Quo at this time and with Rick Parfitt also taking the lead vocals, it was like 3 bands on one album.
Musically, this album successfully captures maximum energy and musicianship of the band, a formula which must have been a satisfying accomplishment for all involved.
One of the many highlights on this album is That's A Fact, a slight departure in tempo and style and one which has never really been seen before or since, but it works magnificently.
The bands imagination was seemingly at its finest and all the factors surrounding made up the recipe to make an album which will remain a favourite amongst fans of the golden Quo era for many years.
