How to Use Shoji Panels in a Bathroom
- 1). Install water-resistant, sliding shoji panels to divide a tub area from the rest of the bathroom. Water-resistant acrylic and transparent plastic panels can be used in high-humidity or moist environments. This application allows the shoji panel to create a division of space while allowing the bathtub area to still receive light through the panel.
- 2). Position small shoji panels at windows. These can be mounted using a roller-track system (which is traditional), allowing the panels to slide to the side when you want to expose the window.
- 3). Mount fixed shoji panels over half walls that are used to separate commode areas from the rest of the bathroom. This design is particularly helpful as it adds to the privacy of the commode area without using a solid wall which might make the room feel smaller.
- 4). Install a hinged shoji panel door on a linen cupboard. The translucent quality of the rice paper will disguise the objects in the cupboard while creating a sense of additional space and design.
