Putting Together a Home Library
If you found this article I'm guessing it is because you have a pretty nice library that is slowly taking shape but you find it's missing something.
Here's the question.
Do you have a nice section of leather bound books? This is the meat of any good library and it's not as hard to put together as you might think.
But first a quick work about the books.
A leather book has a certain something about it that is hard to define.
it gives off an air of timelessness and of calm.
This will sound terribly corny but it is a very similar feeling when viewing the Grand Canyon in person.
While standing on the South Rim and staring out into the vastness of it all, time seems to stand still and a calmness washes over you.
Walking into and appreciating a library well stocked with leather bound issues from all ages has a very similar feel, although not quite as profound.
So where to begin amassing these gems? It's not as difficult as you may think.
Start off by looking for local church sales.
These sales typically have truly unbeatable prices, often a dollar or two a book and if they have a deep enough selection you are bound to have some good leather choices.
Many library sales have a special section where they segregate the older leather books.
At first blush it may seem like the prices are high but this is only because you just walked past a pile of dollar books making the six dollar books appear expensive - they aren't.
You need to be thankful that they have easily sorted them for you.
Take them all and ask for a bulk discount.
Another place to scan is used book shops, where else.
I'll give you an insider's tip.
Often these leather bound classics sit on there shelves for a long time and they are more than happy to move them.
Most folks that go to these shops are looking for the latest vampire fiction and could care less about a hundred year old poetry book.
Poetry may not be your thing either but if the goal is to build a stunning library of wonderful leather bound books that at the beginning you should worry less about topics and focus on a good price.
As your library begins to take shape then you can begin to fill it with the title that interest you.
Keep in mind that most home libraries, if the are well stocked, will have only about a fifth or less of their books ever read by the owners.
