    Spooky Family Portrait

    • 1). Use photo or illustration software to put a spooky spin on a family photo. You can also alter individual photos of family members to create a picture grouping for a wall or table.

    • 2). Choose the image you wish to alter and upload or scan it into your computer. Select the appropriate file command for the software you're using to import or open the image so that you can edit it.

    • 3). Add a sepia tone or black-and-white effect to make the photo look old or antique.

    • 4). Copy and paste spooky graphics, such as dangling spiders, bats or ghosts, from the Web or a clip art gallery and arrange them on the photo. You can also insert jack-o-lantern images or tombstones and add them to the photo's background. You can additionally use the software to turn your family members into monsters, like a vampire clan. Add red tint to each family member's eyes and use a drawing tool to add fangs to their smiles, or copy/paste images of fangs from the Web and arrange them over the smiles, adjusting the size as needed. Add as many eerie adornments or adjustments to the photo as you wish.

    • 5). Print the finished picture on photo paper and place it in an antique-looking frame. You can now display your creepy family portrait throughout the month of October.

Find a blank jack-o-lantern pattern on the Internet or draw one by hand. The image should be a pumpkin outline with a stem at the top, but nothing where the face will go.

    • 2). Print or photocopy several of the jack-o-lantern patterns on orange paper or card stock.

    • 3). Set out crayons, markers, gel pens and poster paint, and allow your family members to each decorate and design a face on their own jack-o-lantern. They can also use stickers, glitter and other adornments to decorate their paper pumpkins.

    • 4). Instruct your family members to cut out their finished jack-o-lanterns with scissors.

    • 5). Display the jack-o-lantern pictures in your home during the Halloween season.
