How to Keep Wasps From a Tree
- 1). Remove or cover food from the area around the tree. In the spring and early summer, wasps prefer protein-based foods, so make sure to remove any outdoor pet food or leftovers from outdoor meals. Wasps prefer sweeter foods in the late summer and early fall, so compost should be covered, as well as any fallen fruit.
- 2). Do not squash or swat at any existing wasps in the area around the tree. If a wasp is squashed, pheromones are released, which attract other wasps in the area.
- 3). Avoid spraying any scented perfumes or dyes around the tree. Wasps are attracted to anything sweet-smelling, especially in the late summer and early fall.
- 4). Avoid floral-patterned or brightly covered furniture around the tree. Wasps are attracted to anything that resembles a flower.
