Seattle is located in Washington on a narrow strip of land between the salt waters of Puget Sound and the fresh waters of Lake Washington. The city is home to many arts and cultural attractions, the downtown art museum and many live theaters. While visitors will find an array of attractions, they can also find some cheap things to do around the city. - The Chittenden Locks and Carl English Botanical Gardens are located in Seattle and offer free admission. The Chittenden Locks were built in 1911, and visitors can watch ships and sailing vessels and they enter and leave the locks. Guests can also watch as a series of mechanical adjustments are made on the ships. From March to November, guided tours are available to learn about the locks. Visitors can also view salmon through a viewing glass as they travel from fresh to saltwater in season (June through October and March through April). The seven-acre Carl English Botanical Gardens are also located here and are home to nearly 2,000 species of plant life.
