Thriller, Celebrating the Jackson 5 and MJ
Thriller Live is a musical celebrating the life and music of the pop group The Jackson 5 and the solo work of their stand out star and pop cultural icon Michael Jackson.
It is a two and a half hour show that has been performed live in the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and Scandinavia and recently opened at the Lyric Theatre in London on January 2, 2009.
The show was thought up by Adrian Grant, a long time Jackson family friend.
Thriller Live previewed in the United Kingdom in August of 2006 at the Dominion Theatre.
The show creator, Adrian Grant, started the British Jackson 5 fan club in 1988 and has gotten to know the family very well.
He claims that Thriller Live was born out of an annual Michael Jackson tribute show that attracted 1,000 to 3,000 people annually.
In 2007 Adrian Grant began production for a United Kingdom Tour of Thriller Live that was originally directed and choreographed by Kerys Nathan and LaVelle Smith Jnr.
The first tour included the talent of Shaheen Jafarholi who played a young Michael Jackson of the Jackson 5.
As an adult, pop idol star Zoe Birkett and Australian singer Mig Ayesa took on the role.
Production for the West End version of the musical began in 2009 and included 6 people to portray the lead of Michael Jackson.
Thriller Live is currently playing at the Lyric Theatre that is located on the West End on Shaftesbury Avenue in the City of Westminster, you can get your Thriller Live tickets there.
The Lyric Theatre was designed by famed architect C.
J.
Phipps and was erected by producer Henry Leslie with money from the Alfred Cellier and B.
C.
Stephenson show, Dorothy.
The Lyrics Theatre was the second theatre to be built on the stretch of Shaftesbury Avenue and is currently the oldest theatre on the street.
It was refurbished from 1923 to 1933 with new bars and foyer.
The façade was restored in 1994 and it presently seats 967 guests on four levels which is considerably less than its original capacity of 1,306.
The theatre still uses electric pumps to raise and lower its iron curtain.
When the theatre was first built it showed mostly comic operas and later became the home to lighter comedies, musicals and straight dramas.
The Lyric Theatre has kept many of its original features including the original 1767 house front which is found at the rear to the Great Windmill Street.
