- Potted plants can be a can simply be placed in a terrarium and buried in the substrate, or left in the pot to provide an additional hiding spot for the tree frog. If you purchase a potted plant from a nursery or store for a tree frog, first unpot it, rinse it and repot in sterile potting soil to avoid exposing the tree frogs to fertilizers or chemicals from the nursery that may be toxic to the tree frogs.
- Artificial plants made of fabric or plastic can be used in tree frog terrariums but should be washed before putting them in with tree frogs. This will remove any dust or perfumes that have been added to the plants. However, if the plants are dyed and the dye runs during the washing process, those plants should not be used because the dyes could be toxic to the tree frogs.
- All terrarium plants with the exception of artificial plants will need UV lighting in order to thrive in a terrarium. Tree frogs also need UV light rays in order to thrive and receive vitamin D for growth and development.
