You Are A Lot Younger Than You Think You Are

I make no bones about how old I am and think I am in pretty good shape for any age.
I work out, consider my eating habits to fall between that of eating relatively well and sort of eating well, and I drink alcohol in moderation.
I used to be an average smoker but quit about 30 years ago.
I'm married to a younger-looking-than-her-age woman who is 24 years my junior.
I will probably never retire and look forward to adding a fulltime job to my internet entrepreneurship once this economy starts hiring again.
All my friends, sports buddies, neighbors, relatives, and working colleagues are all much younger than I am and that keeps me feeling and acting younger.
I usually make reference to people my age as "that old guy" or "the old lady" because I truly feel that most people my age are much older than I am.
Just recently though, my wife made a remark that made me start thinking about where I am in the scheme of things.
I was reading her an article that said a celebration was planned this month commemorating Ronald Reagan's hundredth birthday.
"Gee", she said, "In 28 years you'll be 100".
Wow.
That's very, very funny; but it also hit me like a ton of bricks.
I had better really start getting serious and begin savoring every single day, because I don't have to tell you how fast time flies.
But wait, that's just panic talking.
There's always a way to solve a problem like this and make it come out in your favor.
For instance, several months ago, I started to add pushups to my weight training.
I started with ten and did them religiously every single morning.
When I tried to add one more it became extremely difficult.
Then I figured it out; it was all in my head; rather than starting to count from one to ten I began starting at ten and counting backward.
My reasoning was that as you get to what used to be the starting number you became more refreshed.
You know, you're normally less tired at one than you are when you finally reach ten.
Now I start from thirty and work backward and I find it continues to be effective.
My goal right now is fifty and I think I can accomplish that in about six months.
Okay, maybe eight months.
That goes for situps, bench presses, leg raises, preacher curls, or whatever I do.
So here's the thinking I developed when it comes to age: If I were 100 right now, I'd look back at pictures of me at 72 and marvel at how young and fit I was.
"Oh, and look at how young you were honey", I'd say to my 76-year-old wife.
But wait, I'm not 100, I am 72, and look what great shape I'm in.
Look at how young my wife is, look at how young my buddies are; I'm not old, I'm only 72.
I've got a whopping 28 more years until I reach 100; thank goodness for positive thinking.
