Homemade Garden Seeder

    Assembling Your Seeder

    • Find a canvas bag with handles long enough for you to comfortable fit it over your shoulder, and a 1-inch diameter piece of PVC pipe long enough for you to use as a "walking" stick. Cut a hole in the bottom of the bag (towards what will be the front) just large enough for an end of the PVC pipe to fit through. Keeping the hole a little smaller than the PVC pipe will ensure that the bag fits tightly around the pipe. Stick the pipe about 2 inches into the bag. Secure from the outside with duct tape. Cut the top of a soda bottle (about 3 inches) off and attach it to the bottom of your PVC pipe with duct tape.

    Using Your Seeder

    • Load your seed bag with seeds. This kind of seeder works best with large seeds like corn or peas. Walk the length of your prepared row, aiming the PVC pipe where you want the seeds to be placed. Use your hand, or hold a piece of heavy-duty cardboard inside the bag in front of the PVC pipe, to "allow" a certain amount of seeds through the pipe at a time.

If you want to plant smaller seeds, or only plant a few at a time, make another PVC pipe length without the bag and place the seeds in a few at a time by hand.

Cover the seeds you planted with your foot.
