How to Protect Air Conditioner Copper
- 1). Use security lighting to keep your AC unit well-lit at night. Thieves generally prefer to work in darkness so they're less likely to be seen and caught. Security lighting will often result in thieves looking elsewhere for easier targets.
- 2). Install a fence around your home if you are able to. Apartment renters will not have this option but anything that adds a barrier between your air conditioner and a potential thief makes the copper in your unit harder to steal.
- 3). Hook an alarm system to your AC unit. There are alarms specifically designed to prevent your air conditioner from being tampered with or stolen. The loud noise that results from unit tampering helps stop thieves from opening it to take the copper out.
- 4). Lock a protective cage around the air conditioner. Protective cages are designed to be difficult to remove and to help prevent the air conditioner from being opened or stolen.
