How to Cut Equisetum to Kill It
- 1). Set the lawn mower to its highest setting. Mow down the equisetum. Gather up the cut stems and discard them in the trash.
- 2). Wait for the next growing season. The horsetail will probably resprout. Mow the new growth back before it reaches 8 inches in height. Discard the cut stems.
- 3). Repeat the mowing anytime the regrowth reaches close to 8 inches in height. Over the period of two or more seasons, the lack of leaf matter will deplete the roots underground, killing the plant entirely.
