    Word Borders

    • Make a border using words. Powerful words that capture the spirit of your board or the meaning of what you are trying to get across can be an effective border. Use colorful stickers that complement the background color of your board to spell out words or short, punchy phrases. For example, if your project board is a display about William Shakespeare, you might make a border spelling out phrases Shakespeare coined, such as, "To be or not to be," or, "What a piece of work is man."

    Image Strips

    • Print out images on strips to create a vivid picture border. One way to do this is to incorporate many images that revolve around your theme. For example, if your project board is a display about insects, make a border depicting various bugs. If your display is about about geography, you might depict images of different modes of transportation around your board. Print images on paper, cut them into strips and affix them to the board, or get border strips and put stickers on them, then line your project board with the decorated strips.

    3D Borders

    • Instead of using strips of paper or images for your borders, use three-dimensional objects so it adds a little texture to your project board. For example, if the project board is about the ocean, surround it with small sea shells, sand dollars or plastic fish. If it's a holiday display, glue candy canes or colorful peppermint candies around the entire board. If the project board features information about recycling, glue on old, empty water bottles, crumpled papers, pen caps, soda cans and other clean trash to it.

    Punch-art Shapes

    • Get a roll or strip of pre-made border and some paper punches to make your border more attractive. Paper punches come in a variety of shapes and styles. You can punch one shape repeatedly, or several shapes in a row. Pick a border in a color that contrasts with the color of the project board. When you put the punched border strip along the project board, the color of the board will show through the designs that have been punched out of the border for an added pop of color.
