Instructions on How to Open an RV Awning
- 1). Disengage any safety mechanisms or tie-downs on the awning that hold it close to the RV while it's in transit. Engage the ratchet mechanism to the "Open" position. Grab the pull strap and open the awning manually. Pull the hand crank away from the side of the RV. Crank it slowly to allow it to open fully if that's the type of awning you have. If your RV awning operates on electricity, press the "Extend" button to open the awning.
- 2). Lock the rafters or braces on either end of the awning into position by tightening the knobs. Set the braces on the ground or fit them into their brackets on the side of the RV.
- 3). Open the entry door carefully. If it comes in contact with the awning, adjust the slope of the awning by adjusting the length of the braces.
- 4). Adjust one of the braces to a slightly shorter length than the other one to prevent water from pooling in the awning during rain showers.
- 5). Wrap an awning tie-down rope around one end of the roller bar. Connect the other end to stakes in the ground. Repeat for the other end of the roller bar. This helps protect the awning in case of a sudden wind gust.
