How to Shutdown Without Installing Updates in Windows 7

    Option One (see ref 2)

    • 1). Press the "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete" keys simultaneously. A window opens displaying several options, including "Lock this Computer," "Switch User" and "Open Task Manager."

    • 2). Click the "Red Arrow" in the bottom-right corner of the window.

    • 3). Select "Shut Down" from the drop-down menu that appears. Windows 7 will shutdown without installing updates.

    Option Two (see ref 1)

    • 1). Click "Start," type "Update" in the search field and click "Windows Update" when it appears in the results list. The Windows Update window opens.

    • 2). Click "Change Settings" in the left pane of the Windows Update window.

    • 3). Select "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" or "Never check for updates (not recommended)" from the "Important Updates" drop-down menu and then click "OK." Both of these options allow you to shutdown Windows 7 without installing updates.
