The Best Treatment of Tinnitus

101 27
A common medical complaint that affects many people today is tinnitus. This is a ringing sound that is heard in the ears and can affect ones life to a certain degree. Treatment of tinnitus can be prescribed by your local GP. It is of value to know that tinnitus is not an actual disease, it is a symptom of an underlying medical condition, and it is this medical condition that is treated.

After being seen by your GP, a number of different treatments may be offered to help address the underlying problem and also the tinnitus itself. One of the most common of these is to be given a course of antibiotics to address the medical problem. It is also known for doctors to prescribe antidepressants which help to bring relief to the sufferer.

Those patients that already have a form of hearing loss may be required to wear a hearing aid which will increase the volume at which ambient sounds are heard. This in itself can help the individual lead a more normal life without the discomfort caused by a dominant ringing sound in their ears.

In a small number of patients, the cause of the tinnitus may be a benign tumor called a neuronal. It is suggested that surgery may need to be performed if this is the underlying reason.

Apart from medications and clinical procedures, complimentary therapy can also be used to treat tinnitus. Such therapy has been proven to reduce the level of tinnitus. The exact therapy can include hypnosis or certain forms of yoga and meditation.

The majority of medical specialists will suggest that having a positive state of mind can also work towards curing actual tinnitus. Other treatments that are sometime offered may include a dietary change as it is known that diet can be a cause of tinnitus, or even in some cases electro-magnetic pulse stimulation of the tissue of the inner ear.
