How Many Words Should Your Content Have And Why

When you start writing for marketing purposes, whether it is fresh articles for submission to article directories or new content for your website, you will be facing a common dilemma - how many words should your articles or web pages have.
The answer to this dilemma will depend on many factors, but the prevailing one will be what is generally considered as normal content length in your specific niche and for keywords that you are competing.
A good practice when researching the websites and marketing strategies of you competitors is to check how many indexed pages their websites have and how many words each of them approximately have.
If you make an analysis of your competitors' performance in this way, it can give you a good insight into the amount of content that is needed to achieve good placement with some particular keyword.
That way you will know how much more content you need to produce to be at equal level with your competitors.
But that is only content-wise.
The next step would be to achieve their number of backlinks as well, but that is another assignment.
Generally, it is recommended that you do not have less than 450 words of content per web page or article.
This depends on your competition, but if the websites that are dominating search engines for your keyword all have more than 600 words on each page, you should consider producing 700 words on yours, so you could compete with them.
Search engine algorithms consider many factors when deciding a placement of a website, but number of words certainly is one of the important ones.
Over the years, the amount of words needed to be published in an article or on the web page, has been increasing.
At the beginning of Internet, it was enough to publish content around 100 words in length, or even less, to be competitive.
Nowadays, many highly competitive markets are dictating a norm of around 1000 words per each page.
This is not easy to achieve, but it is not impossible and that is why the proper analysis of your competition is so important for your own marketing success.
As a rule of thumb, each of your landing pages evolving around some particular subject should have about five pages supporting it.
Landing page is the main bearer of the information on the subject, and where the readers should 'land' on when looking for the keywords for which your site was optimized.
