Top 5 Denim Skirts for Summer

With the summertime months in full swing, just thinking about putting on another pair of jeans can make you sweat! If you’re longing for some denim styles that will let your legs breathe but aren’t exactly jean shorts, you’re in luck. Denim skirts for women are back in style again! Forget the idea that this is a jean trend from the 90s and instead, take a peek at some of the newer shapes and styles we’ve spotted as of late.

From denim maxi skirts to A-line silhouettes, there’s a size and shape to suit just about any woman. Go ahead and peruse our slideshow of our top five denim skirt picks for summer and how to wear them.

The A-Line

It’s well-known that A-line skirts and dresses are the most universally flattering shape for just about any body type. Which is exactly why we can’t resist a great A-line denim skirt. It’s comfortable without looking frumpy and can easily be styled with a tucked-in blouse and summer wedges. When styled right, you can even wear this denim skirt to work on a Casual Friday or for your next Date Night.

Just remember the rule of wearing jeans to work: try to stick to dark denim.

The Mini

This white denim mini skirt just screams summer! First, white denim  is one of summer's hottest jean trends. And the mini version not only gives your legs plenty of room to breathe, but looks great at the beach or for a casual weekend BBQ. Mini jean skirts also look great in some of the bold bright denimcolors we’ve been seeing lately. To elongate the legs, pair your denim mini skirt with some wedges.

This look also looks great with metallic sandals and something loose and comfy like a plain tee.

The Pencil Skirt

The pencil skirt is the most classic of skirt silhouettes, and denim skirts are no exception to this. You can easily dress this skirt either up or down for a variety of occasions. A nice button down blouse is the most traditional way to wear a pencil skirt, especially if you are channeling a more professional look. But for a night out, you can also dress up the look with bold accessories, a silky blouse and nice heels.

Channel your bohemian side with a long, denim maxi skirt. Paired with something as casual cool as a tank top or tee, bangles and flat sandals, it’s an effortlessly stylish look to pull off. And comfy, too. Remember, your maxi skirt should just graze your toes at most, but not be long enough that you risk tripping over it. A maxi denim skirt should also fit well on the hip and thigh area, without “hugging” it so much that you’ll be uncomfortable and feel constricted.

Just like any item of clothing that you buy, you should be able to walk in it and have it fit just right.

Midi skirts, a skirt that hits right around your knees, are very ladylike. In fact, this past spring, designers like Louis Vuitton and Prada showed plenty of midi skirts on the runway, so it’s no wonder the trend trickled down to denim skirts, too. If you’re petite, look for a midi skirt that hits right below or above the knee and be sure to pair your skirt with wedges or heels for extra height. Tall women can pull of midi skirts in a variety of lengths, just shop around until you find the one you’re most comfortable in!
