Fresh Ideas for a Bathroom

The bathroom is perhaps the most functional room in the house. Regardless of how distasteful some of the functions that are performed inside the bathroom are, utilitarianism alone doesn't mean the bathroom can't also be a decorative showcase. When it comes to bathroom decor, the idea is aesthetic functionality. - The bathroom mirror is often a thing of utter boredom. Transform your bathroom mirror into a fresh statement of individuality. Outline the perimeter of the bathroom mirror with small, plain white tiles. Paint the tiles to reflect your favorite color, favorite shape or favorite geometric design.
- Make the bathroom a storage area to showcase your collectibles. Whether your collection is old movie posters or delicate china plates or hats from the stovepipe to the porkpie, show off your collection in the one room that nearly every visitor will occupy at one time or another.
- Create a better lighting scheme in your bathroom by combining natural and halogen lighting. Expand your window to let in more sunshine and hang small halogen spotlights on the wall to provide a sharply defined lighting that gives you a more richly authentic idea of what you'll look like outside as you shave or apply makeup.
- If your bathroom needs a fresh new look but is too small for much in the way of renovation, increase your room by taking out the old toilet and installing a wall-hung toilet and wall-hung sink. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how much new space your bathroom takes on with these renovations.
- Privacy is rare if you have limited space, but the ability to knock down your bathroom walls can change that. Expand the size of your living area by incorporating your bathtub into a much larger space. Use your half-bath for toilet issues, or install a toilet in its own self-contained space. The new living area can be a place where you bathe in a tub, sit on a couch to read a book or sit at a table to surf the Internet. Simply by knocking down a wall and removing a toilet, you can create a spacious private oasis where you can work, rest and bathe.
- Brighter colors can freshen up your bathroom in a way that keeps things cheap and simple. Painting bright colors doesn't end with walls, trim or even ceilings. Paint the bathtub a bright color, and paint strips that circle around the bottom of your toilet. Add randomly placed ceramic picture tiles on the wall to complement or contrast the paint scheme.
