How to Set Up an Outdoor Security Camera
- 1). Choose a type of connection. A wireless connection is easier to install, but a wired connection guarantees no signal interference. Wireless interferences come from other electronic devices within close proximity of your system. For example, a cell phone might cause interference. Purchasing a quality, reputable system may eliminate signal interferences.
- 2). Choose a camera type that fits your needs. For example, a PTZ camera pans, tilts and zooms, while a night vision camera of course works for night surveillance.
- 3). Select the best location for your camera. Choose a location that is not easily accessible to the average person to prevent tampering. Mark the area where you want to set up your camera, and drill holes to prepare for mounting.
- 4). Mount the brackets that come with the camera. Attach the brackets with the screwdriver. The brackets should be tight and stable enough to hold the camera.
- 5). Mount your camera by attaching it to the brackets.
- 6). Select a location for the monitor. If you are using a wired system, make sure you have enough wire to run from the camera to the monitor location. For a wireless system, your monitor has to be located in the appropriate range to ensure clear reception. Refer to your system instructions for accurate range.
- 7). Run a cable from the camera to the monitor, unless you're installing a wireless system. For wired systems, cables can run along door and floor edges or under a carpet. Use electrical tape or a staple gun to secure the wires.
- 8). Connect the wires and turn on your outdoor security camera system to view your area.
