      Bring 4 quarts of water to a boil in a large pot for cooking the pasta.

      In skillet, simmer the 1/2 cup of the half-and-half and nutmeg over medium heat. Whisk the cornstarch with the remaining 1/4 cup half-and-half. Whisk cornstarch mixture into the simmering mixture. Continue simmering until it thickens slightly; about 1 minute. Cover and keep warm off the heat.

      When the water for cooking the pasta is boiling, stir in salt and add the pasta. Cook, stirring often until the pasta is almost tender but still a little firm. Reserve 1/2 cup of the cooking water, then drain the pasta and return it to the pot. Cover and set aside.

      Return the half-and-half mixture to medium-low heat and whisk in the reserved pasta cooking water. Slowly whisk in the Parmesan cheese.

      Place cooked pasta on a large serving platter. Add the sauce and toss to coat. Sprinkle with chopped basil or parsley. Serve and enjoy!
