How to Plant in Concrete Containers
- 1). Select a container that provides for drainage. Concrete planters generally have a hole or holes in the bottom. It is important to address this issue or you will have problems with drainage later.
- 2). Spread sphagnum moss or burlap in the bottom of the container.
- 3). Determine the amount and type of soil you need according to the species of plant you will be putting into the container. As a general rule, the container should be filled with potting soil to about six inches from the top of the container.
- 4). Dig a hole in the soil to accomodate the root ball of your plant. Tamp the soil around the plant and water thoroughly to settle the soil and encourage the roots to spead.
