Aromatic herbs can be used in a variety of clever ways.
They are best used as an additive in cosmetic items such as toilet water, perfume and any such product requiring an expressive aroma.
These herbs can also be used in culinary artistry.
The appreciation of using aromatic herbs started with the Egyptians.
They were renowned in ancient times as well as the present for their use of rare, expensive and exquisite fragrances to create unique and sublime aromas.
Modern day perfumers often use aromatic herbs in incense frequently used in many religious ceremonies.
Gardeners today grow aromatic herbs for a variety of purposes.
The herbs rosemary, basil and marjoram maintain their scents most notably when dried.
Preserving your aromatic herbs is very easy.
If you store the fresh stems in a jar they will last a week or longer in the refrigerator.
Another way to store them is in oil.
First wash the herbs and then let them dry for approximately an hour using indirect sunlight.
You can then pour preserving oil in a jar with the herbs.
This will make them last for two to three months.
If you wish to make use of them for a longer period of time you can freeze them.
First, wash and dry them.
Then place them in a freezer safe plastic bag for storage in the refrigerator.
You can even chop up the herbs and freeze them in an ice tray.
This is a cleaver and handy way to create a flavor base for culinary dishes.
Preserving them in this manner will keep them fresh and ready to use for at least four months.
In the range of aromatic herbs there are also ornamental herbs.
These are herbs that produce brightly colored foliage.
The colors are beyond comparison even with some of the most popular blooming flowers found in formal gardens.
The reason they are called ornamental is due to their decorative qualities.
Even the textures of the leaves on ornamental herbs are exceptional in their beauty and complexity.
They are especially delightful for lining flower beds or as a balcony or trellis runner.
Here are some other aromatic herbs that make a delightful addition to your herb garden:
