How to Make a Child's Twirly Skirt
- 1). Pick out colorful fabric, buttons and ribbon with your child.
- 2). Lay a new piece of fabric face-down on a flat surface.
- 3). Place an old skirt that fits your child on top of the fabric and trace the outline of the skirt adding 1/4 inch to all sides.
- 4). Cut the skirt outline from the fabric. Fold skirt panel in half and trim all edges to make even.
- 5). Trace skirt panel onto another piece of fabric and cut out.
- 6). Make a 2 inch slit down the top of the back panel of the skirt.
- 7). Sew a piece of 1-inch ribbon to the top edge of the skirt's front panel.
- 8). Sew 1-inch ribbon to the top front edge of the skirt's back panel, leaving the back slit open.

Lay the back panel of the skirt face-side up on a flat surface. Top with the front panel of the skirt face-down. Trim and make all edges even. - 12
Using a straight stitch, sew a quarter-inch hem on both sides of the skirt. Trim excess thread. - 13
Fold in the back top slit pieces of fabric a quarter-inch on each side. Hem. Use a backstitch to secure the ends. - 14
Sew a button to the left side of the back slit. - 15
Sew a 2 1/2-inch loop to the right side of the back slit to create a closure. - 16
Trim any excess thread to finish the skirt.
