Energy Star Boiler Requirements
- An Energy Star-approved boiler must have an annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) rating of at least 85 percent. The AFUE percentage measures the total amount of fuel that is converted to heat in relation to the amount of fuel that the boiler uses.
- Energy Star boilers are available in gas or oil models. An Energy Star boiler may be equipped with additional efficiency-boosting features, such as electric ignition, sealed combustion and updated combustion technologies that create more heat than standard models.
- Energy Star boilers are at least 6 percent more efficient than products that meet the federal minimum efficiency standards, which results in long-term savings on electric bills for homeowners. Some Energy Star products are eligible for tax credits and rebates.
