Happy April Fools!

"Do not you think that there is a certain symbolism? This question resonates behind my back, while I browse the sixth (and last) album containing the largest collection of postcards dedicated to the First of April. A pormela is a gentle, petite old lady in an elegant living room overlooking the rooftops of Paris. The 1,500-fish, small fish and Pescioni, mostly handled by maidens or boyfriends, I do not leave any doubt about the kind of symbolism.

But I understand that Madame puts the question expressed doubt: after all, these were postcards "for family"? where not leaked anything less than presentable. For instance, they have nothing to do with the heavy double meanings of the cards illustrating figs and peaches, asparagus and mushrooms, not to mention the banana. Usually collectors snub these postcards "fantasy"? In the early twentieth century, continued to bring to life in our urban society and thanks to a product with the published technical criteria and industry, certain pagan rituals associated with ancient agrarian cultures. It was the French king Charles IX, in 1567, to bring forward to January 1st the beginning of the year, before that coincided with the beginning of spring, the resumption of agricultural and germination. Over the centuries, however, is still alive, especially in France and Germany, the custom of celebrating the awakening of nature, made to coincide with the feast of love. Postcards of the First of April, in fact, belong to the category of great boyfriends: are messages that lend themselves to the timid heart, and those who are afraid of making blunders writing, their language: a language of images designed to express their love so allusive .

The fish, depicted as a symbolic gift from the boyfriend, while traveling in the open on the postcards, there still remains covered by veils of the symbol. They are beautiful beribboned Pescioni, pike-sequined songs, accompanying you flowers, and sometimes as a winged bird, hovering in the sky, ridden or not by cupids. They belong to a speech in which sentimentality is not kitsch betrays Eros, and even the pastor interpreting them as a porte bonheur family: the surprise which they are connected, rather than a joke, it's Annunciation (it should be remembered that the Maria falls just before the first of April?).

Historians will note that the flood of these postcards, just in France and Germany, and just at the beginning of the twentieth century, is just thirty years after the war, which saw them opposed in 1870: together with the postcards that highlight the use of the fishing rod, the repeating rifle and walking stick, invite Dad to repopulate their country bled. By now at least eighty years ago that these postcards are gone. The April Fool now survives only as a synonym for hoax carried out by revelers who love to cheat your neighbor, and etymologists recall that cheat means' "? Take for a ride"?. The ancient fish has struck again.
