My Ice Maker Is Slow on the First Time

    New Installation

    • The freezer compartment of the refrigerator is too warm to make ice cubes when the appliance is first connected to the power supply; the motor has to cool the freezer compartment to a suitable temperature for freezing and storing ice cubes, a process that takes several hours, sometimes up to a full day. Cubes appear quicker when the appliance has been connected for a day or so.

    Freezer Too Warm

    • The freezer should be set to 0 degrees Fahrenheit or -18 degrees Celsius to keep food safely frozen and speed up ice cube production. Ice will be replenished less frequently if the temperature of the freezer is set too high. Temperature changes take about 24 hours to come into effect.

    Door Seal Problems

    • See that there are no containers, bottles or or other food packages holding the freezer compartment ajar, letting cool air escape from the appliance. A poor door seal causes the temperature to rise inside the freezer, melting ice cubes and slowing up production. Verify that the rubber seal around the edge of the door touches the freezer.

    Kinked Water Line

    • The water for the refrigerator's ice cubes comes through a supply line connected to your household plumbing. You may have accidentally installed the refrigerator with a kink in the supply line that reduces or stops the flow of water to the ice maker. Move the appliance forward, straighten the water line and move the refrigerator back, taking care not to crush or kink the line again.
