How to Install a Standing Shower
- 1). Measure the outside length and width of the standing shower with a tape measure. Measure the space in your bathroom where the shower will be installed to be sure it will fit. The shower installs right up against the walls framing it. Plywood covers the walls and floor of the shower.
- 2). Measure the location of the drain on the shower unit and then transfer these measurements to the floor of the installation area by measuring out from the framing walls to locate where the drain hole will go. Cut a drain hole in the floor at this location with a hole saw.
- 3). Tip the standing shower on edge and lean it against a wall. Apply plumber's putty to the top and bottom rim of the shower drain. Set the top and bottom sections of the drain in the shower drain, one on top and one of the bottom. Tighten the two halves to install the drain in the shower.
- 4). Slide the shower unit into the installation area with the help of your assistants. Have two assistants pull the shower from behind the frame and into position while you and a helper push the shower into place. The drain must slide into the drain hole and the walls of the shower must be plumb with the framing walls.
- 5). Level the shower with a carpenter's level. If the shower is not level, slide shims under the floor of the shower to adjust it. Fasten the shims to the floor with wood screws.
- 6). Mount the shower to the framing wall boards with sheet rock screws. Insert them into the mounting holes and drive them into the frames.
