How do I Make Faux Caramel Apples?
- 1). Push wooden skewers down into the center stem area of the apples. Stop when the skewer is about halfway through the apple, and the apple will sit on the table without tipping.
- 2). Mix together 1/2 bottle of decoupage medium and craft paint to create a caramel brown color. Use one of the wooden skewers to stir the mixture, making sure that the color is uniform throughout.
- 3). Place the skewered apples on sheets of waxed paper. Use a plastic spoon to pour the colored decoupage medium over the apples, beginning at the top stem area. Allow the medium to drip down over the surface of the apples, just like it would with a real caramel apple.
- 4). Sprinkle ground corn cobs over the liquid decoupage medium to simulate ground peanuts. Ground corn cobs can be found in the small animal department of your local pet store or variety store, and is sold for bedding.
- 5). Dry the apples overnight to make sure that the decoupage medium is completely dried and set. Spray the apples with a clear glossy sealer spray to give the caramel a shiny finish. Allow the sealer spray to dry, then arrange the apples on an attractive serving dish to display.
