Air Conditioner Fan Doesn't Turn

    • 1). Check the current settings on your air conditioner control panel and verify that the fan is actually turned on. Many air conditioning units have three fan settings: "On," "Auto" and "Off." If your fan is set to "Off," this is why your fan is not blowing. If your fan is set to "Auto," the fan will only blow when your home's temperature rises to a certain degree, so switch your fan to "On" to get it to work.

    • 2). Clean your fan. Completely turn off your air conditioning unit and use a screwdriver (if applicable) to open up the unit's case. Inside you will find the fan. If the fan has a lot of dust on it or is obstructed in some way, the fan isn't going to turn. This could also lead to the overheating of your air conditioner. Clean off the fan, seal your air conditioner back up and turn everything on again.

    • 3). Replace your air conditioner's thermostat. How you do this depends on exactly what type of air conditioner you own. The thermostat has a sensor inside that allows the fan to come on either at certain temperatures or when you turn it to "On." If your thermostat has shorted out, this could prevent the fan and the entire air conditioning unit from working, so replace it as quickly as possible.
