    • 1). Choose the right shade of bronzing gel, as they come in a variety of shades and types for different skin tones. Generally speaking, skin bronzers come in light medium and dark shades. The goal is to blend the scar in with the rest of your skin without emphasizing it; therefore, choose a shade of bronzer that is the same color as your skin. If your skin tone is medium in color, choose a medium-toned bronzer. If you are darker and have dark scars, opt for deep bronzer shades as close to your skin tone as possible. Also, decide if you would like a semi-permanent bronzer or something that you can wash off each day. Some gel bronzers are makeup based, which can be washed off, while others are like sunless tanners, which will fade overtime. Choose your type based upon your needs and lifestyle.

    • 2). Clean your skin thoroughly. Clean the targeted area with soap and water, or a face or body wash. The soap or body wash that you use should be oil free. By using oil-free products, you will give the bronzing gel a clean, dry base to adhere to without it rubbing off easily. Once the skin is clean, pat it dry with a clean towel.

    • 3). Apply the bronzing gel evenly. Using a medium to large foundation brush or foundation sponge, apply the bronzing gel directly to the sponge or brush. Apply a small amount of gel and gently blend it into your skin. Apply one even coat over the desired area. Let the gel dry. If after one coat the scar is still visible, use the same method to apply another coat. This will allow you to build up your desired color level to blend the scar into the rest of your skin without looking overly done.

    • 4). Set the bronzing gel. If your bronzing gel is makeup based, apply translucent powder over it with a clean and fluffy blush brush to set it in place. If your bronzing gel is a sunless tanning product, set it by allowing it to dry thoroughly.
